New Progress

The past week has been hectic. I am moving to a new house in Suffield. I have been working on my packaging when I can. I am posting what I have decided on. I still have not posted any pictures of the packaging itself. I am making it from paper pulp which I will hopefully be done with in the next couple days to post. Right now my plans are to use the label around the box and attach the tag to the box as well.

The inside and outside of my tags sans the pretty die-cut

Finally, some headway

I am finally feeling like something is happening with this. The tags are going to be recycled paper (of course) Above are the front and back side. They are die–cuts which also open with more information inside. The small circles on the side are cut–outs.

Above is the inside view. The top portion will have a description of the tea and the bottom will be basic brewing instructions. Each tag is color coded.

Feeling Frustrated

I didn't get to work on my design as much as I would have liked to today. I worked from 8:30 until 6:30... I am exhausted. I am not really sure where to go from here. I am feeling really uninspired by the type faces I am experimenting with and I have a great packaging idea which I found at a store, but I have no idea where I would get this made in bulk... I have done some type studies all laid out with the little flower/leaf logo... but so far I am not impressed and I still like the second option the best. The last one I feel is way too stiff. I guess my second choice right now is number 5. I have realized that whatever I choose it should definitely be more round to match the leaves themselves.

Logo Ideas

So here is a bit of what I have been doing with the logo. I would still like to do more font studies to get one that is just right. I adjusted the shape and size and they are now more in sync with each other. The three flavors I will be designing for will be a green tea called Citrus Mint, a white tea called White Peony, as well as a black tea called Chocolate Chili. I am running through a lot of packaging ideas I want something that is really different and something collectible and reusable.

Searching for Sustainable packaging

I have been looking through various tea products from the U.S. as well as other parts of the world to see what kind of packaging is out there. Here are some interesting ones I found although not all are sustainable.

This first one is from Forte Tea. The leaf on the outside carton is actually the tag used for steeping.

Chai is a loose leaf tea brand. It comes in a pretty standard shaped box, still I like the print on the side.

I liked this one because it comes in stackable tins that are all different colors so they are nice for collecting.

Something more organic feeling.

Arcadia Tea is very eco - friendly. The packaging is minimal and it is all recycled.

initial thoughts

Today is Wednesday, September 17. This is the first day of the sustainable tea package project. In this assignment we are to design a logo and basic stationary set as well as packaging for a tea company called "Awaken". The packaging has to be sustainable in some sense. This could be recycled, repurposed, or biodegradable. In this blog I will be discussing my findings and ideas. This is a really interesting photo I found on Flickr or a recycled soda bottle turned container.
